A problem with my Twitter visualisation

I discovered a problem with my Twitter visualisation…

It’s actually hard to explain visually, so a metaphor might work better (that’s how I’ve been explaining it to co-students today).

Each tweet is raindrop. At the beginning you have very few raindrops, about a shotglass full. At this stage a raindrop makes a difference.

But after a while there have been so many raindrops, that you’ve got a whole bathtub of raindrops. Suddenly one raindrop doesn’t make a difference anymore!

And that is what’s going on right now! After a while nothing changes, because I’ve looked at so many tweets, that one tweet doesn’t affect the total measured happiness.

I somehow need to look at maybe the most recent tweets — say 10,000 — and ignore older ones. I needed to change my code, and create an ArrayList which only keeps the most recent tweets.

[UPDATE]

Just succeeded to do this! In the screenshot I’ve been looking at the 5 most recent tweets. It’s easy to look at the 10,000 most recent tweets. Just change one variable. Coding can be convenient sometimes.
