Visualising sounds with Katy Oswald

During the first three weeks of the mayor project I’ll be attending workshops, which will help me to explore the concept ‘The City.’ I found Katy’s workshop very interesting.

We needed to go out to certain locations and note which sounds we heard, and how often we heard that sound. Together with Collin we needed to record just in front of our uni.

There’s a lot of data one needs to visualise. I’ll have to create 10 designs using this information. All these design should be able to answer the following questions:

  • What sound is this?
  • How repetitive is this sound?
  • How loud is this sound?
  • Where did one hear this sound?
That’s quite a lot of information. To simplify this task, we first needed to visualise the sounds we heard at one location. These where the works of other students.

I especially liked Elvira‘s work.
